2002 Nikon Press Awards - shortlist announced -
The judges - Greg Whitmore - Picture Editor of the
Observer; celebrity photographer, Richard Young; distinguished photographer,
John Downing; Tony Marsh - Picture Editor of the Evening News in Edinburgh; Paul
Silva - Picture Editor of the Daily Mail; Martin Keene - Head of Pictures for
the Press Association and Mike Spillard - Features Picture Editor of the Daily
Telegraph - had the difficult task of choosing the winners from 3,686 images.
The winners will be announced on March 21 and will go on show at Proud
Central, 5 Buckingham Street, London from March 29 to April 18. All the images
will be printed by Joe's Basement.
To enter the awards, photographers are
invited to enter a portfolio of 5 images in seven specialist categories - News,
Features, Regional, Photo Essay, Fashion, Sport and Arts & Entertainment.
For the prestigious Nikon Press Photographer of the Year, they have to enter a
portfolio of eight images.
The competition, which has been running since
1972, is a tough test of the photographer's skill and always produces some
stunning images.
