David Noton: Chasing the Light Review
|
David Noton is a three times BBC wildlife photographer of the year award winner, and in this 90 minute DVD, Chasing The Light, he shares his approach to taking landscapes along with any other handy tips or tricks that he thinks of as he goes along.
Across three separate locations, Mr. Noton guides you through the process of taking breathtaking landscape images, at all times of the day. The video kicks off with David describing 5 cornerstones of great landscape photography then quickly moves onto the first location, which is Glastonbury Tor.
Here he talks the viewer through the process of scouting for the perfect location (which he does using his cameraphone) before returning at the crack of dawn to take some pictures in the morning light.

David Noton presents the video extremely well, having a very open, honest demeanour which endears you to what he has to say. You can tell he is the kind of person who would call a spade a spade. I particularly liked the way very little time was devoted to agonising over kit. He does mention what he uses, and what he would recommend, but it is almost dropped in as a side note.
Technique and patience are most important, and that is clear to see in this video. The weight behind his words is bolstered further by his images, which are displayed throughout the feature and are of the highest quality. The video is superbly shot and put together, making this DVD a pleasure to watch.
David Noton Chasing The Light DVD: Verdict
Chasing the light is an inspiring piece of instruction. After watching the DVD I actually considered getting out of bed before dawn, which is a lot for someone who normally takes all their pictures after dark.
The quality of the images, backed by David's matter-of-fact presenting and easy-to-understand advice make the price tag of just under twenty pounds seem very reasonable indeed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in this area of imagery.
