Harman rename Galerie FB digital paper

Posted: 23 Jul 2008
New name for Ilford Galerie FB digital - Innovative paper which offers traditional silver halide prints from digital files undergoes rebrand.
Press Release:

harmanAs part of plans to make it easier for photographers to understand its brands and their heritage, leading photo-imaging business Harman technology has changed the name of its Ilford Galerie FB Digital product. The paper, which offers users the best of both worlds, has been rebranded with immediate effect and will now be known as Harman Galerie FB Digital.

Launched to a unanimously positive response in August 2006, Harman Galerie FB Digital employs the same baryta enhanced, fibre base as papers such as Ilfobrom Galerie FB and Multigrade IV FB Fiber which are produced by Harman’s black and white brand – Ilford Photo.

However what makes this 315gsm silver gelatine paper so remarkable is the fact that it’s designed to be exposed in digital laser printers. As such, it enables users to enjoy all the aesthetic and archival properties of traditional darkroom prints but with the convenience and added scope for manipulation offered by digital files.

It’s this ability to bridge the gap between analogue and digital photography that has led to the paper becoming a firm favourite with fine art photographers, museums and galleries the world over.

These users, and many others, swear by Harman Galerie FB Digital’s excellent contrast, sharpness and surface finish which gives superb, continuous tone black and white images. This applies irrespective of whether the digital files being used are of black and white or colour film negatives or positives, scanned prints or digital originals. In fact, the results seen are widely acknowledged as being equal to those achieved using conventional black and white printing materials and exposing methods.

Speaking of the renaming, Harman technology’s Marketing Director and Chairman, Howard Hopwood, said: “The name may have changed but customers can rest assured, Harman Galerie FB Digital remains the same great product offering the same impressive benefits, such as a baryta coating which contributes to image clarity, tonal range and archival properties.

“We’ve renamed the product Harman simply because its digital exposure means it sits more closely to our digital range of papers which are sold under the brand Harman Photo. It’s also fitting that a product which pushes the boundaries of modern photography carries the name of our founder, Alfred Harman, who formed the ILFORD Photographic Company almost 130 years ago.”

Harman Galerie FB Digital is supplied in 100ft (30.5m) rolls in 20, 30, 40 and 50 inch (51, 77, 102 and 127 cm) widths for high-end prolab users.
