Jessops Parliamentary Photo Competition winners announced
Lord Robertson's image of Wallace Monument, Stirling is one of the six shortlist winners. |
Six politicians have been named Westminster’s winners in a contest to find the politicians with an image they can be proud of.
A panel of expert judges for the Jessops Parliamentary Photographic Competition sifted through a record 600 entries submitted by over 80 Commons and Lords members.
Now they’ve named their top pictures, captured by Parliamentarians during their duties or on their travels.
The winning photographs from the Commons were Tim Loughton’s Mapito Rush Hour, Collin Challen’s You are Here and Austin Mitchell’s untitled image showing closed fairground rides on a British beach.
The House of Lords was represented in the final selection by Lord Crathorne’s Steam Cloud, Lord Dholakia’s untitled image depicting a lone English massage chair on a empty beach, Lord Robertson’s Wallace Monument, Stirling and a second photograph from the former Secretary General of NATO, his portrait of Susanna Agnelli, former Italian Foreign Minister.
Brian Linnington, marketing and e-commerce director for Jessops said: “Politicians love to go head to head, but rather than the usual war of words we challenged them to come up with photos that capture the essence of their world."
“The standard of entries was outstanding, revealing that energy, determination and an eye for the right image are indeed the qualities of those we elect.”
Each winning entry receives £100 to be donated to CLIC Sargent – Jessops’ adopted charity - which provides care and financial support for children and their families living with cancer and leukaemia.
Now it’s the turn of the public, who can vote for their favourite photograph at the Jessops website, where the seven Judges’ Choice images have been posted.
The People’s Choice winner – which also raises money for CLIC Sargent – will be announced later in the year.
A calendar featuring a dozen of the best photographs can be bought via the website, with proceeds going to the charity.
The Jessops Exhibition of selected photographs taken by politicians and peers is being held in the Upper Waiting Room at the House of Commons until 25th April 2008 when it will move to the House of Lords until 2nd May 2008. The images will also be touring Jessops stores later in the year.
