Lee Filters set to launch holder for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens

ePHOTOzine spotted this interesting accessory on the Lee Filters stand at the Robert White Big Weekend II event that took place November 7/8.

Lying there among the usual quality display of Lee products we spotted this prototype filter holder specially designed for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens. Owners of this lens struggle to use filters because of its enormous bulbous front element and while some users have solved the problem with some DIY, this Lee Filters gadget will be the first production quality solution. It is due to accept 130mm width filters – graduates and some single coloured options, but not the polarizer.

It is due on sale early in the new year and the price has yet to be confirmed. We will bring you more news as soon as we have it. Visit Lee's website for more information.

Hmmm... it might be cheaper just to bracket shots...

Doing a quick search around it appears that this lens does not have a filter thread at the front.

So does that imply LEE have found a way of attaching the filter holder in some other way and without , presumably, vignetting ?

If so, is that good news for other lenses that have rear filters limited to cut-out gelatin, like the Sigma 12-24mm ?

You have always been able to use the lee push on filter holder it's just not been 'ideal' so this is obviously just a progression from this.

I spoke to Lee about this 18 months ago and was told they would produce one 'once the demand was there' which is fair enough.

Goggz, bracketing and using filters is not really the same thing is it and in any event, it's not always desirable or indeed practical, to bracket
