Pepsi sued for copyright infringment

Posted: 22 Oct 2007
Cheeky puckers - The estate of the late photographer Bob Carlos Clarke has sued drinks company Pepsi for featuring an image remarkably similar to one of Clarke's in their adverts.

Lawyers representing Bob Carlos Clarke are suing Pepsi for breaching Copyright laws after an image used on posters and in the press by the company show a remarkable likeness to one of Clarke's image called 'The Lick/Mouth'.

While lawyers acting on behalf of the late photographer claim the advertising campaign features a direct rip-off of Clarke's image, Bosses at Pepsi say that the likeness is merely a coincidence, and that advertising staff at Pepsi have never even seen the image previously.

Photographic experts are now investigating the claim and a decision as to whether the claims are valid is yet to be reached.

Bob Carlos Clarke tragically took his own life on 25 March of last year at a level-crossing in Barnes. It was later discovered he had been suffering from clinical depression.

More information about his work including a gallery if images can be found at the Bob Carlos Clarke website. Image courtesy of the Estate of Bob Carlos Clarke.
