Police install CCTV cameras in hats to record anti-social behaviour

Police have been forced to wear body cameras in an attempt to help fight against crime and give first-hand evidence of incidents in the Thames Valley area.

120 mini-camera kits have been purchased for the force which covers areas of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Officers are now being trained on how to use the equipment which, it is hoped, will be a visual deterrent for anti-social and criminal behaviour.

Some officers in Banbury have already started to wear the cameras which are used by being mounted onto the uniform along with microphone, and PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) are set to wear the cameras in the near future.

Police are hoping the cameras will help provide solid evidence of disruptive and destructive behaviour where in so many cases there is none and suspects cannot be charged.
