First ScotRail Press Photography Awards - Get in the frame before the 14th January 2009.
Scottish PPA LogoPress Release:

If you want to be in with a chance of winning, there’s just over a week left before the entry deadline for the 2008 First ScotRail Press Photography Awards closes on 14th January.

For the fourth consecutive year, First ScotRail is title sponsor of what are the ‘Oscars’ of the Scottish press photography community and which have achieved ‘must enter’ status since being resurrected in 2005.  Chris Hoy, quadruple Olympic gold medallist and 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will help judge the sports category of what are the UK’s only dedicated press photography awards.

The awards are open to staff, freelance, trainee and student photographers working in Scotland. More than 3,000 images were submitted last year across 14 categories including Sports Photographer of the Year, News Picture of the Year and Magazine and Supplement of the Year.  Ian Rutherford of The Scotsman won the top prize of ‘Photographer of the Year’ for a record fourth time.

The awards, to be presented at a glittering ceremony on March 26 at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow will again be judged by a heavyweight panel chaired by Ken Lennox, former picture editor of The Sun.

In addition to gaining peer recognition of your work, there’s also the chance to enjoy a share of the £4500 prize fund or in the Student and Young Photographer of the Year categories, an assignment with a Scottish newspaper or magazine.

So to be in with a chance of winning, get in the frame and submit your best photographs without delay. Please note that all entries must be uploaded online at the dedicated Scottish PPA website where you will also find details about each category and rules of entry.
