crisisPress Release:

The national homelessness charity Crisis is delighted to announce that Prince William has agreed to become patron of A Positive View, a landmark exhibition of iconic international photography, which will take place in London in 2010.

The exhibition, which will showcase never-seen-before work of the world’s leading photographers, is being held in support of Crisis, one of the UK’s leading homelessness charities.

Prince William said: “A Positive View is a hugely important showcase of international creative photographic works. I am particularly glad that Crisis, one of the UK’s leading homelessness charities, will benefit from the exhibition and ensuing auction.  I strongly believe this is a cause which deserves our most wholehearted support.

As Patron of Centrepoint, a charity which provides help with accommodation and works to tackle the root causes of homelessness, Prince William has developed a real concern for the plight of the homeless.

It is very rare for photography of this calibre to be exhibited or made available for sale in the UK. This is only the third exhibition and auction of photography by A Positive View. Previous exhibitions in 1994 and 2000 showcased the photography of the world’s best photographers, including the masters Bert Stern, Irving Penn and Horst P Horst, and the iconoclastic contemporary photographer Cindy Sherman.

This third A Positive View exhibition will be held in March 2010 at the Proud Gallery in London. It will feature signed works from America, Europe, Latin America and Asia, many by photographers exhibiting in the UK for the first time. It will also feature new works from cutting edge photographers tipped to be major names of the future.

The exhibition will culminate with a Gala Charity Auction at Christie’s during London Photography Sales Week 2010.

Andy Page, founder of A Positive View and director of fundraising at Crisis, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Prince William has agreed to become the patron of A Positive View.

By bringing together work by the world’s most admired photographers we hope to create an exhibition the stature of which is rarely seen on the British, or indeed, European visual arts calendar.”

Leslie Morphy, chief executive of Crisis, said: “A Positive View will provide opportunities for homeless people studying photography at Crisis Skylight, our learning and activity centre, to exhibit their own work during this unique event.

Alexandra Shulman, editor of Vogue, said: “Vogue is delighted to be part of A Positive View in support of Crisis, a vital and relevant charity in aiding and improving the lives of the homeless. In particular we welcome the help and generosity of so many of the creative and inspirational photographers who enable this remarkable event to take place.

To date A Positive View has raised over £500,000 to support visual arts projects for homeless and disadvantaged young people. A number of world record prices have been achieved at the charity auctions held as part of A Positive View; Norman Parkinson’s “Solarised Beatles in Abbey Road, 1964” sold for £9,500 in 2000.

I don't know if anyone has read this, but the exhibtion is now being held at Somerset House. A number of my clients are submitting work for it(including me). Beautiful building, it has a Norman Parkinson exhibition on there at the mo which is worth a visit.
