30th anniversary of the AOP Students Awards - Announced to a jam-packed audience at the prize-giving on the 23 March, the winner of this year’s AOP Student Photographer of the Year 2011 Award is Squiz Hamilton, a third year student from Middlesex University.

The 2011 AOP Student Photography Awards winner is Squiz Hamilton, a third year student from Middlesex University.

Squiz's images, which were described as having 'unique quality and extreme sensitivity to detail', will be showcased in an accompanying exhibition at the AOP Gallery in Shoreditch, East London.

Student Awards Judge Miranda Gavin has kindly offered Squiz the opportunity to take part in a one to one mentoring program she is operating. Squiz will receive six bespoke sessions with Miranda, one per month for the six-month period following the Student Awards exhibition.

Squiz will also receive £250 worth of Fujifilm products courtesy of Calumet.

Two Merit prizes were also awarded. The Merit Winners are Sonya Hurtado for her image in the Still Life Single and Luke Smith for his shots in the Portraiture & Lifestyle Series.

Judges choices went to:
  • Rachael Lowndes - Portraiture & Lifestyle Single
  • Nina Hove - Portraiture & Lifestyle Series
  • Marianne McGurk - Fashion & Beauty Single
  • Sarah Brimley - Fashion & Beauty Series
  • Sarah Jackson - Still Life Series
