The first annual Bar-Tur Award for new photography talent has awarded Briony Campbell and Sam Ledger the top prizes in the competition. London College of Fashion student Sam Ledger took the overall student prize while Camberwell College of Arts graduate Briony Campbell took home the top alumni prize for an image that was part of a project she began after her dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The students and graduates had four themes to pick from: the environment, identities, lifestyle and communication. The winning works were selected from over 2,000 images by a panel of judges and prizes ranging from £500 to £2,000 were awarded to students and alumni in each of the four categories.
Briony and Samboth both won £2,000 from the awards which were established in memory of Ann Lesley Bar-Tur (1947-1984), a talented British artist and alumna of Chelsea College of Art and Design. The Award 'aims to recognise the immense power photography has to influence the way we engage with the world' and has been developed thanks to London College of Communication alumnus Amnon Bar-Tur.
