Having a camera that can be triggered by your phone via Wi-Fi can have a lot of benefits. Here, we look at some situations where using Wi-Fi control via your smartphone can come in handy.

Wildlife - As we all know, wildlife can get scared away easily and can be quite shy, so you need to keep your distance. Using a Wi-Fi enabled camera like the Olympus E-M1 can help, as this will enable you to move away from your equipment and remove yourself from where the animal might see or smell you, whilst still keeping an eye on your equipment.

Bad weather -  If there's something that you'd really love to shoot, but the weather is freezing cold or rainy, it can be off putting. But, with the use of a Wi-Fi enabled camera, you'll have the ability to go and sit inside or shelter from the weather, and look on as your camera does all the hard work for you, with its waterproofing gear on if necessary! You can change the shutter speed, aperture, and live bulb mode of the E-M1 all from your smart phone, meaning you'll have full control of your shots as well as shelter from the elements.

Bird photography - If you want to photograph birds in your garden you'll be able to take your shots without having to stand next to your camera, waiting for a shy subject to arrive. Instead, you can set your equipment up by the window, and press the shutter from the comfort of an armchair when you see a bird approaching, for example.

Traffic - For shooting long exposure shots, such as the light trails from traffic, a Wi-Fi enabled camera is ideal for minimising camera shake, as even a slight movement of the camera when you press the shutter can ruin the shot. You can control the E-M1's live bulb setting when using your phone, making it even easier to judge when a shot is ready and stop the exposure without causing shake.

Fireworks - As the E-M1's live bulb setting can be used along with the Wi-Fi system we thought we'd give fireworks a quick mention as you can set the camera to Bulb mode, cover the lens with a piece of card until a burst of colour appears and then end the exposure without having to worry about shake from you touching the camera spoiling the shot.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 - The whole package. In a perfectly-sized package. Click here for more information on the most advanced compact system camera ever produced. The E-M1 comes packed with technologies such as the enhanced Live MOS sensor, TruePic VII image processor, Dual Fast AF and extended WIFI controls.

So when are they bringing out a remote Tripod so I can remotely move my camera to follow a subject and take the shot.
I imagine it won't be long if it is not already available, you would need one app to move your camera and take the shot I would have thought.
And then how much would it cost, would the option be to add this mechanism to your tripod like a tripod head.

Just a thought for the Tripod developers.
