Following months of intensive development Bowens has announced a complete redesign and upgrade of its world-acclaimed Gemini monolight range.
The redefined series includes new-look entry-level Gemini 200 and 400 units and an imminent launch of the ‘extra power and precision’ Gemini ‘R’ and Gemini PRO models.
New key features include:
- Full TravelPak compatibility – the world’s first, affordable, easy to use, mains or battery powered monolight system fulfils a ‘shoot anywhere’ brief.
- Precision ‘Tenth of a stop’ accuracy on new twin-dial controls on ‘r’ (remote control) and ‘Pro’ units.
- A cross-platform compatible plug-in radio trigger module option with Pocket Wizard, Pulsar and Litelink wireless triggering compatibility.
- Ergonomically restyled units in 250/500/750 /1000 & 1500 Ws variants.
“Ambitious photographers always want to stay ahead of the game - but the challenge in a tough recessive climate is to be able to market latest technology equipment at an affordable price. Our new ‘next level’ Gemini range meets that challenge,” said Robert Cook, marketing director.
He added: “Photographers can now shoot with confidence in the studio or on location anywhere in the world using Gemini monolights and our second generation TravelPak portable battery packs.”
“In addition we believe customers should be able to choose at the point of sale whether or not they require radio triggering – rather than be forced into paying for built-in equipment they might not need or want, as is the case with some competitor products. Now our customers can make their own choices. If they want radio triggering they can select our Pulsar radio trigger and plug-in module - or if they own a PocketWizard system they can simply use our PocketWizard module to make the Gemini compatible with their existing equipment.”
Bowens says the new Gemini range, which includes patented photographer intuitive twin dial systems on the ‘R’ and ‘PRO’ models, will simplify working with studio and location lighting.
Explained Cook: “We have combined accuracy with ease of use. Now with one click the photographer can go up or down a stop – or if finer adjustments are required, the second dial is calibrated in tenths. It’s so simple, even an untrained photo-assistant can operate it without having to learn or understand a digital menu system. And now photographers can expect complete consistency from unit to unit.”
The modelling power dial has been removed on the new series.
“It’s unnecessary now” explained Cook. “When a photographer uses modelling it’s either on ‘Max’ or ‘Off’ or the light is proportional to the flash power. The setting on the older version was only approximate. Now all the former features are available on a single two-push button and it’s absolutely spot-on - even between units.”
The new Gemini ’R’ will be available this spring in 250 or 500 Ws sizes ( 250 ‘R’ head: £349.99 (incl VAT): 500 ‘R’ head: £415.90 (incl VAT). Kits start from £894.99 incl VAT)
The new Gemini PRO range features increased power, faster flash duration and faster recycling times – with ‘take anywhere’ multi-voltage capability. Entry level units have also been completely remodelled.
“Our new lightweight Gemini 200 and 400 models with their simple to use intuitive controls now boast five stops of adjustment, proportional modelling, Travelpak compatibility, a restyled ergonomic handle and ‘dump’ facility – all in smaller more portable units,” said Cook.
