Calumet Drummond Street
As well as an extensive array of photographic products, the Drummond Street showroom features a unique Digital Bureaux to enable both professional and amateur photographers to use high grade processing hardware and software; a new, dedicated Digital Training Suite devoted to the very latest in digital equipment; a brand new 60-seat seminar theatre for tutorials; and is one of the largest rental locations in the country, where photographers can hire the very best professional cameras and equipment for special occasions.
“We have invested a large amount in bringing the store completely up-to-date, and the increase in size has enabled us to expand every one of our ranges, from cameras through to lighting equipment to bags”, states Michele Channer, Calumet’s Southern Regional Sales Manager. “This means that we now stock even more choice from the leading brand suppliers, such as Bowens, Canon, Fuji, Kodak, Leaf, Nikon and Spicer Hallfield.”
It is not just in terms of products and facilities that the new store has been revamped. According to Channer, the service and product offering is equally, if not more important to Calumet’s customers: “Photographers want to be able to discuss their requirements with someone who understands and has answers. Over the last few months, we have brought in even more staff from a photographic background to ensure that our service is knowledgeable and informed. We insist that all of our staff have a keen interest in photography, whether they are photographers themselves or have worked in the industry. This means that customers will always find someone who has knowledge in everything from capture and manipulation through to output.”
Explaining the features of the new store, Channer says that the Digital Bureaux came about as a result of talking to customers: “Calumet customers can rent a machine with a scanner, top software and access to both small and large format, high quality printers, as well as benefit from the advice of our in-store experts. It enables both professional and keen amateur photographers to manipulate and output their images to ensure that they have the best results. We currently have three booths that are available to hire six days a week.”
Training and knowledge were also major considerations when the new store was designed, as Channer explains: “We have built a dedicated Digital Training Suite to show professional photographers how to get the best from the very latest, top end digital equipment. In addition we have a large 60 seat seminar room for product demonstrations and tutorials on everything from colour management through to lighting techniques and digital workflow.”
Calumet’s rental capability is an important feature of the company offering; Channer states, “Professional photographers appreciate this service, as it means that they can take on one-off jobs that their own equipment can’t handle without having to invest hundreds or thousands of pounds”, comments Channer. “They can choose from hundreds of products from all of the top suppliers, or even use the service to ‘try before you buy’.”
