Canon add the CanoScan LiDE 20 and 30 models to their range - Both models offer USB 2.0 connections and use Canon's LiDE technology. This inolves the use of a low power LED light instead of the more traditional fluorescent lamps commonly used.
Canon have announced two models in the new CanoScan LiDE Series of CIS scanners that offers users the benefit of improved product design and improved technology features.
The CanoScan LiDE 20, an ultra slim 600dpi scanner aimed at the home user
The CanoScan LiDE 30 with 1200dpi featuring ultra slim design with a stylish aluminium finish.
Previously, Canon classified scanner products with the letters D (CCD models) and N (CIS models). By adopting the new name LiDE (LED Indirect Exposure), Canon differentiates between CIS scanners and CCD scanners and draws attention to the benefits of Canons own LiDE technology.
The CanoScan LiDE 20 is a 600x1200dpi resolution scanner with 48 bit colour depth delivering high image quality together with stylish design. This is the perfect scanner for entry level users and first time buyers. Featuring 3 EZ buttons, simple plug n play via USB 2.0 Full Speed connection, and able to scan multiple photos in a single pass, this is Canons champion 600 dpi model.
The new CanoScan LiDE 30 is a 1200x2400 dpi resolution, 48bit colour scanner combining outstanding design and great image quality. The CanoScan LiDE 30 has all the features of the LiDE 20 plus an aluminium finish lid and double the optical resolution, making it suited to users with mainstream scanning requirements who also want stylish and high quality computer peripherals.
Style and design
LiDE is an advanced scanning technology developed and brought to market by Canon. LiDE allows substantial reduction in the number and size of individual components needed to produce a scanner, without compromising performance or quality. This is achieved via the use of an ultra small, low power LED light source and the integration of optics (lens elements) directly onto the scanning sensor. Traditional CCD devices require large fluorescent lamp light sources and a series of mirrors and lenses to focus light onto the scanning sensor.
LiDE scanners are extremely compact, generate very low noise levels and require tiny amounts of power so that only a USB connection is required to power the device. LiDE scanners offer one connection plug and play.
The benefits of LiDE technology have allowed Canon designers to create extremely stylish, functional products that are as desirable for their looks as for their performance. LiDE scanners give the worlds smallest desktop footprint and can even be stored and used vertically on the desk, using the in-box scanner stand. The design of the LiDE 20 and 30 has been further refined from previous CIS models, including refreshed colours, sleek integrated hinges and even thinner base sections.
No AC Adapter
3 EZ Buttons
As LiDE scanners are USB bus powered, no AC adapter is required and the LiDE 20 and 30s USB 2.0 Full Speed interfaces ensure fast operation as well as simple connection and set-up.
Three EZ buttons scan, copy and email located on the front of the scanners, bring further ease of use. By one touch of the buttons, frequently used operations can be accomplished in fewer steps. The EZ buttons are programmable allowing many processes to be automated, including a new Scan to PDF function that generates PDF files directly from hard copy originals.
The innovative Z-lid with its spring-loaded hinge makes it easy to scan bulky books or magazines, pressing them flat against the scanning surface to ensure high quality results.
QARE version 2 (Quality Auto Retouch and Enhancement)
- Fast Multi-photo Mode
QARE automatically removes minute dust particles and scratches from scanned photographs. QARE version 2.0 improves the quality of retouching, delivering better scans, even from damaged originals.
Fast Multi-Photo mode allows quick and easy scanning of many photos in a single operation. Up to 10 originals can be scanned at once, generating individual image files perfect for creating online photo albums or when archiving photos onto CD-ROM. This feature is improved from previous versions by scanning all the data in a single pass, greatly reducing overall scan time.
Software & Compatibility
Each of the new CanoScan LiDE models come with a powerful and fully featured software package. Bundled software includes:
- Comprehensive driver and toolbox software Canons ScanGear CS enables the user to simply perform whatever operation is required with the selection of just one icon on a menu bar. For example, scan to directly to a printer to make copies or scan directly to email attachments or faxes.
- Arcsoft PhotoStudio (PC/Mac) a flexible image editing programme allowing tasks such as colour adjustment, adding text and album storage/retrieval functions.
- Omnipage SE OCR (PC/Mac) a powerful optical character recognition application that allows scanned text to be converted into recognisable text characters/data by the computer.
The CanoScan LiDE 20 and CanoScan LiDE 30 are compatible with Windows 98, 2000 Pro, ME, XP and Mac OS9.0 or later, OS X (v10.1 or later).
