ouch....if it was lower I might consider, but this is too much as far as I'm concerned...especially with 1d II's going for just over 2k.

No. The Nikon D2Xs was well over 3k on launch...

Canon have a habit of pricing their camera's high on launch, and then letting the price slide over the following few months.

Best to give it a couple of months and the price will drop. Also gives them time to iron out any software niggles.

How do Canon justify a price of $4000 versus 3050? $4000 equates to about 2045. With the extra 1000 one could fly to the US and shop in person! I suspect that those in the market for a body and some kit (lenses, etc.) will do just that.

Yep rgb seem to be heading the price war already.

2500 makes more tempting, but as hobbs says, give it a while for the price to level off.

I understand that AJ Purdy are to sell the 1D MkIII for 2,200 after initial rush but will put an initial premium on of about 200 making it 2,400.The salesman said they do not want to "rip off" their customers. I admire that as we should all.

Lets just hope they do that because for them it makes long term business sense

Buy at 2200 & keep for 3 years before the new Mk IV launch. Sell at 1200'ish perhaps. 333/year.
