Canon introduce Bubble Jet i560 printer - Photo quality printer claimed to be the fastest in its class
The Single Ink Bubble Jet i560 provides photo print quality superior to traditional
six colour photo printers thanks to Canon's advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology,
with Micro-Nozzles capable of producing a consistent 2pl droplet size. The Bubble
Jet i560 is also the first Bubble Jet printer from Canon to support PictBridge
- allowing direct photo printing from any PictBridge compatible digital camera
via a USB cable connection.
The Bubble Jet i560 is 25% faster than its predecessor, the i550, making it some 20to30% faster than its nearest competitor . To ensure speed does not come at the expense of quality, the Bubble Jet i560 incorporates advanced Precision Colour Distribution Technology to give high speed, high quality 1200dpi colour printing in standard mode on plain paper.
"What is so remarkable about our engineers' achievements is that not only have they delivered the fastest printer in its class, they have given us a printer capable of unprecedented levels of precision," said Malcolm Hills, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging in the UK and Ireland. "In terms of accuracy, upgrading to a printer fitted with advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology is like an artist moving up from crayons to pencils."
A range of technologies previously used on higher priced printers combine to make the Bubble Jet i560 the fastest printer in its class. Canon uses a long mono print head, which covers more of the page with each pass. A relay paper feed method is employed to ensure fast print speeds by feeding the next sheet to be printed before the ejection of the previous sheet is complete. Additionally, four independent faster and quieter DC motors drive improved paper feed and carriage mechanisms.
With one pass bi-directional printing, the print head completes a full pass in one direction and another full pass on its way back to reduce print times. In traditional printers this causes a banding effect in colour printing because the order of inks hitting the page is reversed on the return pass. Canon has successfully eliminated this banding effect with the development of its advanced Precision Colour Distribution Technology. Two lines of colour nozzles are positioned symmetrically so the order of inks hitting the page in one direction is identical to that produced in the opposite direction. Colour variation due to print head direction is therefore eliminated, resulting in uniform, ultra high quality prints. Printing an A4 page with 90% colour coverage - for example a PowerPoint slide or full colour web page - will take just 26 seconds; some 30% faster than the competition.
To provide photographers and businesses unparalleled lab-quality photo and full colour graphics capability, the Bubble Jet i560 incorporates advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology with Micro-Nozzles. With an ejection aperture measuring just 10 microns in diameter - 40% smaller than the nearest rival - Micro Nozzles deliver 2pl droplets, less than half the droplet size of most competitor products. High precision semi-conductor manufacturing methods ensure every ink drop is exactly the same size and travels in exactly the right direction. The control and accuracy afforded by these microscopic droplets puts great distance between Canon and its nearest rivals when it comes to fine detail in both colour documents and photo reproduction. The Bubble Jet i560 gives unparalleled photo and graphics quality exceeding that of products reliant on more costly six-ink systems.
A nozzle density seven times that of some competing products dramatically reduces the time required to print to the page edge, giving the Bubble Jet i560 unsurpassed borderless print speeds. Full colour 4x6in borderless photographs can now be printed in just 50 seconds, three times faster than competing products. Each row of dedicated 2pl nozzles is matched with a row of 5 pl nozzles to allow high speed printing of graphics and solid areas of colours. Unlike competitors, the Bubble Jet i560 can eject large ink and small ink droplets at the same time, permitting high speed printing in high-resolution mode.
Single Ink technology provides individually replaceable ink tanks for all colours, ensuring only exhausted ink tanks are replaced. An ink out and ink low detection system warns the user when specific ink colours are running low and Canon's transparent ink tanks make it possible to check a cartridge is empty before discarding. The large 150-page sheet-feed will be welcomed by business users with high volume requirements.
Camera to printer direct
The Bubble Jet i560 is the first Bubble Jet printer released by Canon to support the new PictBridge standard for connecting digital cameras and digital camcorders direct to printers via a USB cable - providing convenient, quick and easy photo printing. Any PictBridge compatible camera - regardless of manufacturer - can now be connected directly and used to drive the printer without the need to first transfer images onto a PC.
Connectivity and enhancement tools
The Bubble Jet i560 can be shared across most network environments using the Pricom pocket print server. Parallel and USB interfaces are standard, and the printer is compatible with most popular Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
To further improve picture quality, a range of software is integrated in the printer driver. Photo Noise Reduction, Vivid Photo and Photo Optimizer PRO combine to enhance the faithfulness of rendition, quality and naturalness of photographs - particularly those taken in poor light conditions.
Also included in the box is Easy-PhotoPrint software, which interprets camera setting information recorded at the time of image capture on Exif 2.2 compliant cameras to deliver better quality and more natural looking photos. Easy-WebPrint simplifies printing of Internet pages by scaling down output so the entire page is printed even when it extends over multiple screens.
