Canon introduce new flagship flatbed scanner -

They go on to say that the new six line 'Hyper CCD' sensor ensures precision scans that are a true reproduction of the original.
Scanning documents at 2400dpi creates massive amounts of scan data, therefore
to speed up the scanning process, the new CanoScan D2400U implements a hardware
'lossless' compression technology. After a super-fast six second preview of your
scan, the CanoScan D2400UF initialises the new lossless technology, which Canon
say speeds up the transfer of the final scanned data.
Lossless
compression is an advanced process that mathematically transforms raw scanned
image data to a fraction of its original size. This compressed data is
transferred via USB to the PC where the compression is reversed to reveal the
full image data with no quality degradation or impairment giving faithful
quality in an instant.
The 59 Canon film adapter unit FAU-13 comes with the 329 CanoScan D2400UF and is optional with the 279 CanoScan D2400U. It can be used to scan negative and positive, 35mm and medium-format films up to 5x4inch The film adapter unit features a uniform light that shines through the film onto the image capture device and allows an accurate scan to be made.
Original film media is highly vulnerable to dust & scratches. Canon has developed FARE to minimises the effects of these flaws in scanned image data. FARE uses infrared scanning to detect and quantify imperfections in the original film media. It then uses a software process to remove flaws; that Canon claim will guarantee superior quality scans.
The CanoScan D2400UF is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems and
comes with Adobe's PhotoShop 5.0 LE and scanner drivers for both platforms.
Canon also bundles the scanner with Arcsoft PhotoBase and their own PhotoRecord
(PC) or ImageBrowser (Mac) software as the tools to assist you in taking old
film photography into the new digital realm.
