The Canon Powershot N is one of Canon's most unique compact cameras to date, with a tilting touch screen, Wi-Fi connectivity and 8x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, the compact square metal body is available in black or white, and will be priced at £269 when available in April.

Key Features

  • 12.1 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor
  • 8x optical zoom lens, 28-224mm lens; Intelligent IS
  • 2.8 inch 461k dot tilting touch-screen
  • HS (High Speed) System, DIGIC 5
  • Wi-Fi; GPS via mobile
  • Mobile Device Connect Button
  • Any Way Up operation
  • Full HD video capture
  • ISO80 - ISO6400
  • 1cm macro mode
  • Hybrid Auto; Smart Auto (58 scenes)

The lens surround controls the zoom, and a ring closer to the lens is the shutter release button, which can be operated with the camera either way up. It operates in the usual way, if you half press the shutter release button it will pre-focus, then a full press will take the photo.

The rear has a 2.8 inch touch screen, a switch on the side will put the camera into creative shooting mode and this auto creates 5 different shots, as well as saving the original. Turn the camera either way up, for either high angle shooting, or to shoot from a low angle, and the screen will automatically rotate the correct way round.

Underneath you'll find access to the battery compartment where a small lithium-ion battery gives the camera a 200 shot battery life. There's a microSD slot as the use of a larger memory card would have made the camera larger, and there's also a standard tripod socket if needed.

The camera can be connected via Wi-Fi to the internet for direct uploads to Facebook or YouTube, or to a smartphone when a Wi-Fi network isn't available, and GPS co-ordinates can be added to images using the GPS from a smartphone (or tablet). A range of digital filters can be manually chosen, including Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome. We will be posting our full review when the camera is available.
