A lot of cameras at Christie's - Christie's have announced the outcome of their camera auction held yesterday at their South Kensington store.
Press Release:
A Block Portrait camera sold for £20,400, while a Stereoscopic camera fetched £7,800, and a Cinematographic camera £5,400.
“For what is a very specialist collecting area the saleroom was busy with plenty of competitive bidding between the room and telephones. In a carefully edited sale the pre-1930 movie cameras sold strongly with the postwar cameras selling much as predicted. Compared to our November 2006 sale in this category the weakness of the US dollar ensured that most interest came from Europe and the UK.
Christie’s is unique in offering a sale in this category and the strong selling rate by lot shows the benefit of offering a niche collection to a carefully targeted audience of collectors, trade and institutions.”, said Michael Pritchard, Director and auctioneer for the sale.
More information on Christie's can be found at their website.
