Colour Confidence the colour management division of TypeMaker, announce their appointment as strategic partner for EIZO in the United Kingdom, and the launch of the DisplayProof system based around the EIZO ColorEdge CG220, at Focus-on-Imaging, stand E40. The CG220 is the first LCD monitor to enable colour management professionals to gain all the advantages offered by flat screen technology, without having to sacrifice the quality of their images.

The launch of the Barco Coloris early last year, saw the first flat screen monitor to offer competition in quality terms, to professional colour critical CRT monitors. However production ceased with Barco being unable to source consistent quality of flat screens, and as a business focused on the top end of the market it was unwilling to compromise their standards. Barco's CID421 monitor remains available but is also reaching end of line, as more and more customers move towards flat screen technology. Colour Confidence, as Barco's UK & Eire Distributor, has been actively searching for a replacement and the launch of the DisplayProof system, based around the EIZO ColorEdge CG220, is the result of this development work.

"The introduction of the EIZO ColorEdge CG220 is an exciting step for colour management professionals. Having conducted extensive testing, this is currently the only LCD monitor Colour Confidence is willing to offer as part of our colour management portfolio" commented Simon Prais, Technical Director, Colour Confidence. "The move away from CRT monitors has been a long process, with many colour critical users questioning the quality achievable from these monitors. It is encouraging to see a first class LCD solution entering the market and we expect the ColorEdge CG200 to lead the way in this field."

The wide colour gamut of the ColorEdge CG220 provides a vast range of displayable colours compared to conventional monitors, which typically cover the smaller sRGB colour space. To ensure suitability for complex imaging tasks and colour management, EIZO has equipped the ColorEdge CG220 with advanced features such as superior rendering of shadow tones, emulation of the colour characteristics of other monitors, and black level adjustment.

The DisplayProof system provides Colour Confidence's discerning customer base with a complete, plug and play colour accurate display solution. The package comprises the EIZO ColorEdge CG220 monitor, a GretagMacbeth Eye-One Display-2 monitor calibrator, WhatProfile? software and ReproPack test form. The GretagMacbeth Eye-One Display-2 calibrator ensures the monitor is calibrated and profiled, with the ReproPack providing users with a quick and easy way to verify their entire workflow, from display to proof to print.

WhatProfile?, an added bonus for Apple Macintosh users, is included to allow image files from unknown sources to be displayed with up to four different possible ICC source profiles applied. The operator can then decide the most appropriate profile to select and assign this to an image - this is especially useful in making a decision on using either sRGB or AdobeRGB with a certain image.

A Colour Confidence consultant is available to deliver, install and configure the DisplayProof package. The consultant advises on optimum settings for the individual client's integration of the monitor into their workflow and how their applications software should be configured. "Our experience in distributing Barco monitors for many years has shown us that numerous customers are purchasing expensive, highly colour accurate monitors, only to find that they are configured incorrectly, or left without being correctly calibrated at the point of installation. As with all products, and especially colour management, the operator needs to know how to maintain the system calibration and what better way than meeting an expert and being shown how to do it on a one-to-one basis?" comments Geoffrey Clements, Managing Director, Colour Confidence.

The ColorEdge CG220 provides the same colour reproduction capabilities as CRT monitors. Improvements to the backlight and colour filters mean that it can now handle the Adobe RGB colour space and EIZO's original brightness stabilisation function coupled with high-precision calibration using ColorNavigator, ensures stable brightness and colour tones. The CG220 and ColorNavigator provide the calibration profile management function and a range of manual adjustment functions ensure flexibility.

"We are delighted to partner with Colour Confidence, its depth of expertise and experience in this market means we are able to offer customers the best of breed products with unrivalled service and support solutions" commented Rob Musson, Business Director - Displays, EIZO.

Availability and Pricing
The DisplayProof system SRP is £3189 plus VAT and is available from Colour Confidence and its network of resellers. Delivery and on-site installation is available for a fixed price of £300 plus VAT. A special launch price has been set at £2999 and is available for all orders placed before 31st March 2005.
