Press Release: DCP Systems logo

Following the success of their innovative Giclée Varnish range, DCP are now able to supply a brand new, improved formulation developed to eradicate the problems of edge cracking when stretch mounting fine art digital canvas prints over a frame.

The new improved Giclée Varnish formulation features advanced elastomeric polymers that resolves possible cracking issues and also makes it easier and faster to apply without foaming. The varnish can be applied in multiple coats exclusively by roller. Previously the final coat was best applied by brush to avoid foaming caused by trapped air as a result of the rollering action.

DCP’s Sales Director Darren Walker explains, “The microporous coating on the media used in the production of Giclée prints is brittle and when stretched over a frame, even with chamfered corners, can crack either immediately or over time. The new Giclée Varnish formulation solves that issue and the sole use of a roller throughout application ensures easier and better application, coverage and finish.”

The introduction of advanced polymers into the new Giclée Varnish effectively binds the inkjet receptive coating in place giving it extra elasticity for when the canvas is stretched. This basically, makes cracking of the coating more difficult and so enables cleaner, stretched prints. DCP have done extensive testing on canvas prepared with three or four coats of the new varnish and can report good results every time. Initially the new Giclée Varnish will be available in Satin finish.

Giclée Varnish has been developed to protect, preserve and enhance fine art and photographic prints produced on digital inkjet printers and is water based, to avoid the unpleasant and hazardous fumes given off by solvent based products.

This non yellowing varnish offers revolutionary finishing for use with Pigment based inks on Piezo printers and designed to increase resistance to image fading whilst protecting against moisture, abrasion, and of course help prevent cracking ensuring peace of mind and total satisfaction in the presentation of fine art and photographic work.

We recommend the use of DCP’s Giclée Stretch Canvas as this has been specifically sourced for archival quality, ink receptiveness, colour gamut and stability and has a special ink receptive, single side, acid free coating which also helps to protect the surface from cracking.

Other products available from DCP are:
