The December Christmas Photo competition winner has been announced.
Alan Benson has won himself an Epson Stylus Colour 950 printer with his Behold
a new King is born.
The competition was judged by Peter Bargh, editor of ePHOTOzine. Pete's comment
"I was disappointed with the number of entries, but that's probably down to
various reasons such as the time of year, the fact the competition's new and
undiscovered or the theme. That said, some of the entries we got were very well
executed. As the judge it was a very difficult to pick between this photograph
and the 2nd place as both showed considerable thought to the competition and
its theme. I chose this because Alan had taken the subject that many have probably
tried to photograph, but he applied a bit of extra thought by placing the moon
to enhance the composition. The framing adds to the result and makes the whole
image an interesting image to view."
Alan explains how he came about taking the photograph:
"It started with a trip one cold evening to Bath to see if I could see
something differrent for the competition, after about an hour or two I was still
looking, but the wife and daughter were both cold and getting fed up so I agreed
to call it a night, we were walking back to the car past all of the shops when
I saw the angel above the Roman Baths, so I stopped and started to take some
shots, but I needed something to bring it to life, then saw the moon so I moved
closer under the angel and lowered the tripod got down on my knees and positioned
the moon as in the photo I took a couple of shots, andI then agreed to go home!"
"I used a Fuji S-1 Pro, Sigma 28-300mm zoom, cable release, tripod and
the exposure was f/11 at five seconds."
Alan was delighted to find he was the winner:
"I saw that I had won in the early hours when I had an email from a reader
commenting on my Christmas photo, so I looked and sure enough it said winner.
This was at 12.30am so I went and woke up my dear wife who thought the house
was on fire as I was all in a flap. She got out of bed, came down stairs and
confirmed that I was not seeing things, I am still on a high as this is a first
