ePHOTOzine member chris-p
has been crowned this week's Photo of the Week (POTW) winner.
The POTW is picked by ePHOTOzine's founder and Editorial Director, Peter Bargh, once a week and here's why he thought chris-p
's photo, 'Side by Side..', was a worthy winner:
"We don't get many steam shots and the ones we do, while technically good, are often pure records of an event. This one takes things to a different artistic level. Conversion to black & white suits the era of these engines, while the exposure and processing deliver a package that adds a high level of authenticity to the scene. With the high contrast and gritty feel you can almost smell the steam and hear the sounds.
Its upright format allows a tight crop that includes important aspects of the steam, but isn't afraid to lose the tips. The steam from the underside is bright but still has detail that's often lost and it's recorded at just the right moment. This photograph is full of impact, there's even a few unusual subtle touches of colour.
I wrote a poem about the Flying Scotsman as a twelve year old and won a competition - the prize was a black and white photo of the engine. I've long since lost that photo. Had it been this one it would still be safely cherished. Great work Chris!"
POTW winners currently receive a £100 voucher from Pixum online photo printing
