Epson have just announced the Expression 1680 and Expression 1680 Pro, two 48-bit scannners with an output of 1600x3200dpi. The pro model includes a transparency adaptor.
The units use a dual position focusing system to pinpoint focusing for reflective and transparent materials. Epson claim the new models can create a full colour preview in 10 seconds and can scan a 8.5x11in colour photo in 23 seconds at 300dpi and a 35mm slide in 65 seconds at 1600dpi.
The optical density is a respectable 3.6D and there's an optional auto document feeder.
Both models come with SilverFast Ai5 which offers batch scanning and superior colour scanning. You also get Photoshop, Textbridge, Presto and TWAIN software in the bundle.
Yasbir Sihan, business manager for consumer products, told ePHOTOzine, 'The Expression 1680 has been built to the highest standards for both quality, speed and reliability, three of the most important factors for a graphics studio, business or professional photographer.'
The 1680 is 763 and the 1680 Pro is 1009.
