ePHOTOzine member David Calvert, also known as Contemporary Dave
, has won the Epson/ MPA Black and White Photographer of the Year Award at the Master Photography Awards.
David also won the Open Category Award with the same photograph. He recieved his awards at a glittering awards ceremony in Birmingham, which was attended by some of the world's top portrait and wedding photographers and key industry figures.
David’s awards were presented to him by one of the world’s greatest living fashion and portrait photographers - John Swannell. Swannel has photographed for Vogue, Harpers & Queen and Tatler. His clients include Hollywood film stars, world leaders and royalty. He is probably most well known for the portraits he took of Princess Diana with her sons.
David said: "Winning the Epson/ MPA black and White Award is a massive thrill for me. Black and white portraiture is without question my favourite genre of photography. It is completely timeless and takes a lot of skill to get right. For my black & white work to be recognised as some of the best in the country is a massive honour. Also to be presented with the award by someone as famous as John Swannell was the icing on the cake."
