The winners and shortlisted entrants of the first Event Photography Awards have been announced at a prize-giving reception in London.

The evening, which was attended by entrants, sponsors and special guests, marked the launch of the Event Photography Awards Exhibition, where all 23 shortlisted photographs across Professional, Amateur and Social Media categories took their place on the walls of the Camden venue's 'Hub' and 'Gallery' spaces, where they will remain throughout April.

Judged by Philip Atkins, managing director of Off to Work, professional photographer David Loftus, venue designer Paul Daly and Annica Wainwright, editor of Square Meal Venues & Events, the brief was to capture the dramatic settings, stunning occasions, memorable moments and emotive reaction that events deliver. Entrants submitted all sorts of scenarios from weddings, gigs and restaurant launches, to family events, protests and carnivals.

Speaking at the awards evening, Philip Atkins said: "Hundreds of photographs were submitted to the competition and we were humbled by the vast quantity, amazing variety and superb quality of the photos entered into this year’s awards. The creativity shown and the ability to capture the essence of events from every angle, be that as a guest, a supplier, or just as a passer-by, drew us all in to the story behind the events and made us want to be there. It has been an extremely hard process judging all the entries and we are delighted that this year’s awards have captured the imagination of so many. Thanks to our sponsors for their generous support. We look forward to launching next year’s competition and inviting even more budding and professional photographers to enter."
