Fuji S3 Pro discontinued - Replacement on the horizon
The discontinuation of the S3 Pro means that Fujifilm don't currently have a digital SLR in their line-up. In response to this, Hayley Buery, Fujifilm's Public Relations manager released this statement:

"The FinePix S3 Pro has been discontinued and there is now limited stock in the channel in the UK. The product reached its projected production volume in June 2006 and was discontinued as planned.

The continued strong sales of the FinePix S3 Pro has meant that it has sold out more quickly than our forecasts predicted. This demand among photographers for Fujifilm’s SR chip has reassured us that there is real demand among enthusiast and professional users for such an image quality focused product in the market.

Fujifilm remains fully committed to the DSLR market and will launch a replacement product for the FinePix S3 Pro, although we can release no further information at this time."

Ooh, interesting!

I'll be keeping an eye on this, as I'd like to upgrade at some point from my D70, and as Fuji's except Nikon lenses, this might be another avenue to think about.

Mattw

Fuji are signed up to the four thirds standard, pehaps they might do soemthing with that?

It's my understanding that 'Foveon' is exclusive to Sigma.

Thanks for the clarification Gary... (and Matt!) Haven't seen that - looks interesting. Despite the SD14 launching soon, it will probably be someone like Fuji that will take the multi-layer sensor concept where it needs to go.

Have had my S2 for a couple of years now and am looking to upgrage.

Rather then looking at the D200 or 5D I now think I just wait and see for a while...

The Fuji Rep in February stated it would be July that the S4 would be launched - that ties in with the price being dropped for the S3 around about that time... so there is a delay... maybe similair to the difficulties that Sony have had launching the PS3 :o)

I'm confident that the new DSLR will be unique & worth the wait, but don't forget that announcements like these are designed to 'spoil' competitors launches e.g. D80, Alpha 2, Eos400 & Eos3? :o)

Do you also know that Fuji have recenltly launches a S3 Pro for infra red photography http://www.alkenmrs.com/digital-photography/newsblog/index.php/archives/74

Was it Successful? I have an S2 which had to be rechipped by Fuji cos the ccd died on me I was told by the guy that did the work that it was a common fault and happened alot to s3 cameras
