Press Release: Fujifilm FinePix A920

Fujifilm today announces the launch of the new FinePix A920 compact digital camera. Continuing the A series tradition of offering affordability without compromise on feature set or quality, the new camera boasts 9 megapixels, Fujinon 4x optical zoom and ISO 800 light sensitivity as well as QVGA movie recording capability. It’s also incredibly easy to use, with intuitive icon-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and many features accessible via a mode dial. The FinePix A920 is perfect for families who want a reliable, take-anywhere camera for kids and parents alike.

The camera is preset with 16 special scene modes which make it ready to shoot anything from nightscapes, to portraits or ski slopes in an instant. There’s even a ‘Baby’ mode to ensure those all important pictures of baby’s first years look spot-on, with skin tones faithfully reproduced. Fujifilm’s own Real Photo Technology (RPT), the combination of lens, RP processor and Super CCD sensor all optimised to work together for outstanding results, mean that colour, ambience and tone are all as close as possible to the original scene.

The camera’s 4x optical zoom has been especially developed for the A series by Fujinon, the division of Fujifilm responsible for lens manufacture, which is also a leading provider of broadcast-grade television lenses.

The FinePix A920 features a multitude of options for sharing images once they’ve been taken. Playback options include a slide show setting which displays images one by one. Even better, IrSimple connectivity means users can transfer images wirelessly between other A series cameras, and a wide selection of other infra-red devices.

A low light marvel

Photos taken in low light are the ones that are most likely to produce disappointing results. Limited flash range and direct light can mean the foreground is harshly lit and the background lost all together. If the flash isn’t used at all, the image can suffer from digital interference called ‘noise’ as the sensor struggles to pick up all of the detail in the scene. Moving images can be blurred as the camera keeps the shutter open for longer to allow as much light in as possible. Fujifilm has put 70 years of experience in imaging into fine tuning the light sensitivity and flash systems of its cameras in order to avoid these problems and, despite their affordable price point, technology from pricier stable mates is appearing in A series cameras. The FinePix A920 is no exception, with ISO 800 light sensitivity which means photos can be taken in low light, with no flash, and with pleasing results that are virtually noise-free.

The camera’s Anti-blur system increases its ISO setting and associated shutter speed, so that the shutter can open and close much more quickly, thereby freezing moving action without blur – perfect for school sports fields.

No fuss controls

The FinePix A920 features Fujifilm’s recently redesigned GUI, which makes navigating menu options easier than ever before. The system uses an icon based menu, with accompanying explanations that pop up as a new setting is selected. In addition, the camera features a mode dial, making access to some of the most popular settings such as Auto, Anti-blur and movie recording settings simple. Layout of buttons has been designed so that the camera body remains uncluttered and can be operated easily with one hand. All in all it’s so easy to use that the youngest members of the family will be able to use it with minimal instruction, whilst its feature set will keep even gadget-loving dads happy.

The camera takes both xD-Picture Cards and Secure Digital memory formats, offering users choice and, if they already own a camera, meaning change a change of brand doesn’t necessarily mean the additional expense of replacing a perfectly good memory card.

The FinePix A920’s large 2.7in LCD screen is coated with anti-glare materials to increase visibility when framing or reviewing images in bright sunlight. The camera is powered by 2 x AA size alkaline batteries.

FinePix A920 features at a glance:
