The GridPic app allows you to take multiple pictures to form a grid with the pictures taken within the app. Grid sizes go from 2x2 upwards with no limit. It is available from the iTunes Store for £0.69.

GridPic Features

  • Create mosaics in any size from 2x2 upwards
  • Takes the pictures within the app
  • Tap to focus functionality
  • Option to use flash
  • Change the border width and colour
  • Switch between spiral or panorama style sequence
  • Live preview
  • Save to camera roll

GridPic Performance

The app is very simple to use, head over to the settings first to choose whether you want to do a spiral or panorama sequence. The spiral starts in the middle and works outwards to create a square, the more pictures you take, the bigger the square gets. Panorama starts on the left and takes the first three pictures in a column, then adds another column on the right after every three shots (edit, since the review there has been an update which allows the columns to have 1 - 5 images each). There are also options to set the flash and change border width and colour.

All images have a 1:1 ratio, with a preview screen available. When you are happy with your composition, hit the button represented by a camera to take a shot. Next, simply recompose and take another shot, and so on. Although there isn't a limit on the number of images, rather than the mosaic continually getting larger, the individual images become smaller. There is a back button so you can delete the last taken photo.

When you're happy, hit the save button. This saves your image to the camera roll. You need to head there to upload to Facebook etc. Below are examples taken using both the spiral and panorama methods.

GridPic Verdict

Manually creating mosaics is quite time consuming and the GridPic app makes it very easy, allowing you to take the pictures within the app and automatically creating the mosaic. It would be good if you could automatically upload to Facebook and other social networking sites.

GridPic Pros

Very easy to use
Unlimited number of pictures

GridPic Cons

No direct sharing within the app to Facebook, Flickr etc.
Can't use pictures that are already in your camera roll
