HahnemuhlePhotoRagBarytaPress Release:

With fantastic images on show and a chance to meet artists and printing experts, the Hahnemuehle FineArt stand at Photokina 2008 is well worth a visit. Located on stand (C020) in hall 10.1, visitors will be rewarded with far more than just the full product range of the rich in tradition manufacturer. Top-class images by renowned photographers are exhibited in a gallery and those interested will even have the chance of meeting the artists and conversing with them. Meanwhile, experts will use the latest printers from the top manufacturers to demonstrate what can be accomplished technically and how to achieve optimum printing results. In addition, Photokina will also be the venue for the public launch of two newly developed Photo Rag® papers. Visitors can vote their favourites from the Digital FineArt Collection, with every participant in the poll being provided with a sample pack containing new papers in A4 format.

“We want to offer the Photokina visitors the opportunity to communicate with artists and experts,” says Managing Director Jörg Adomat.“The Digital FineArt Collection papers are far more than just pure picture carriers. With their individual surfaces and unique haptics, the papers and the respective image blend into a new piece of art.” On every day of the fair, visitors will have the chance of talking shop with renowned German and international photographers at the coffee bar – or while printing. The expected guests: Andreas H. Bitesnich, Andrzej Dragan, Gaby Gerster, Michael Gilbert, Manfred Kriegelstein and Günter Pfannmüller. Works of the aforementioned artists will be displayed in a gallery at the Hahnemühle stand.

New: Photo Rag Ultra Smooth and Photo Rag Baryta

At Hahnemühle, Photo Rag® indicates our much loved100-percent cotton papers. The new Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth features a particularly smooth surface with a premium silk-finish coating. It’s suitable for both black-and-white and colour prints. The finest colour nuances and contrasts are very distinguishable even in the darkest print areas. With a weight of 305 gsm, the paper has got an appealingly smooth yet substantial feel to it.

Photo Rag® Baryta combines the advantages of pure cotton paper with the unequalled appearance of a traditional darkroom baryta paper. The coating of this glossy, finely structured paper contains barium sulphate, making for a stunning and unique image. “White but restrained at the same time, glossy but not artificial, with a perfect balance between brilliance and reflection. With these attributes, the paper represents the first choice for prestigious gallery prints,” says Neil Snape, fashion photographer from Paris. This paper will be appreciated by black-and-white-photography enthusiasts in particular, but it is also very suitable for luminous colour pictures. The grammage amounts to 315 gsm.

Both new qualities are acid-free and thanks to their ultimate archival qualities, they are ideal for creating beautiful images with the high standards of museum-quality prints.

An extraordinary print result in next to no time

Using the latest Canon, Epson and HP printers, the Hahnemühle experts will demonstrate FineArt inkjet printing. “Usually, just a few adjustments are necessary for achieving optimum print results,” reveals Hahnemühle Support Stefan Neumann. Nonetheless, he adds, the user should possess some knowledge regarding the interplay of the components - image processing, printer and paper. “There’s nothing that can replace hands-on experience. Therefore, we are going to reproduce the complete printing process using the devices of several manufacturers, on our stand.”

Once again, every Photokina visitor can vote for their favourite among the latest Digital FineArt Collection papers, this year. A challenge met not only by the aforementioned Photo Rag® papers alone but also by the qualities FineArt Baryta, Bamboo, Daguerre Canvas and Monet Canvas. Every participant in the poll will be provided with a sample pack containing six A4 format papers, offering them the chance to test for themselves and experience the individual vibrancy of the different media with their own images.
