Honl Speed StrapHonl Photo Speed Strap: Features
If, like me, you're the type of photographer that doesn't use the built in diffusers or manufacturers own gels on your flash gun then you'll probably stick an elastic band or piece of sticky tape around the head and attach them that way.

David Honl thought the same thing so he's brought out the Speed Strap to combat the issue of tape residue and snapping bands that hurt your fingers.

It's a simple device which is simply a piece of Velcro with an inch of eyelets on one side and hooks all along the other. The reasoning is that the rest of the strap is rubberised so it can't slip off the flashgun. In fact I had trouble pulling it off manually.

It then wraps around your flash gun and Honl gels can be fixed onto it as they also have Velcro strips. When you've finished, you undo the strap and stow it in your bag or even leave it on the flash.

Honl Photo Speed Strap: Performance
It's a nice, wide strap which means it won't snap or come unstuck easily but in my experience of Velcro, it does weaken with time which could cause a problem. Of course for the price you could easily just buy another one which isn't too much of a issue.

It's easy to use and if used in conjunction with the Honl gels, you won't mess up your existing gels by stuffing them under the strap.

Honl Photo Speed Strap: Verdict
I can't get the idea out of my head that is simply a money making exercise. I agree with the principle of the concept and it certainly appears like it'll last a lot longer than tape or rubber bands but I wonder if you'd spend more on snapped bands than on the Speed Strap?

For looking professional and neat, the Speed Strap wins hands down and the compatibility with the Honl gels makes the whole system seem more attractive to invest in.

Honl Photo Speed Strap: Plus points
Permanent fix for gels and diffusion materials
Well constructed
Non-slip underside
Thick velcro fastening

Honl Photo Speed strap: Minus points
Velcro could weaken in time
Expensive for what a rubber band could essentially do
