Keeping your web browser up-to-date is generally an easy task, here are the benefits:
  • Better security and protection from viruses
  • Quicker browsing experience
  • Modern websites will display properly
  • Benefit from new features
  • It's free
So, how do you update your browser (this article covers Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari using Windows 7):

Google Chrome

Google Chrome will automatically update when it detects that a new version is available. This will happen in the background, you'll not even notice it's happening and doesn't require you to do anything. You can find out which version you are running by clicking the spanner in the top right-and corner and clicking About Google Chrome.

Internet Explorer

The latest browser from Microsoft is Internet Explorer 9, which works on all versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you're still using Windows XP, the latest version which will work is Internet Explorer 8. To find out which version you are using, in internet explorer, click the cog in the right-hand corner and go to About Internet Explorer.

To update, click the links above, download and install. ePHOTOzine Web Developer David Burleson says, "We strongly urge anyone still using Internet Explorer 7 or other earlier versions to update now. You're possibly open to security issues and some sites, including ePHOTOzine, may not work properly."

About Internet Explorer

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox updates are downloaded in the background and installed when you restart Firefox, if the update has been waiting for over 24 hours you'll get a notification with an option to update. You can manually check for updates by selected help at the top of Firefox and going to About Firefox. This will tell you which version you are running. If there is an update it will download automatically and install.

Safari

When in Safari you can check which version you are currently using by clicking the settings cog in the right hand corner and going to About Safari. Take a note of which version you are using and head to the Apple website. Compare the version you have, if it is a later version than the one on the Apple website, hit download and then install.
