Jon Butler: Three Trees

Jon Butler has been award a Salon Medal for his black and white image "Three Trees" printed on Ilford Multigrade Art 300 paper - this is the first award this paper has won.
From Ilford: Life long creative print maker Jon Butler has been awarded a Salon Medal in the Centenary Exhibition of the London Salon of Photography, with his black and white image “Three Trees” printed on ILFORD MULTIGRADE ART 300.

MULTIGRADE ART 300 is a new silver gelatine textured matt photographic paper produced in co-operation with Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH. Extensive consultation with photographers and printers identified the need for a paper with a true fine art base and a MULTIGRADE silver gelatine coating. It has a cool base colour and a neutral to warm image tone.

HARMAN technology Limited, the makers of ILFORD black and white photographic products, introduced the paper at the Focus on Imaging Exhibition in March this year, and it has quickly become a favourite with fine art black and white photographers and printers alike.

Jon says “I bought my first batch of this paper from you at Focus and used it lots since then. I find it a lovely paper to work with as it's very durable throughout processing and tones and dries beautifully. For the right image there is nothing to touch it.”

Steven Brierley, Marketing Director at HARMAN technology commented “This silver gelatine paper is a true fine art product and we were delighted when Hahnemühle agreed to help us by producing a special paper base. The brief was clear, 100% cotton rag paper base, acid free but with the wet strength needed to survive the archival washing required when making silver gelatine fine art prints – all of which have been met”.

The London Salon only exhibit that class of photographic work in which there is distinct evidence of artistic feeling and execution. The 100th Exhibition will open at Mark Mason Hall, 86 St. James Street, London SW1A 1PL from 1st August 2011, before going on to Smethwick Photographic Society, The Old Schoolhouse, Churchbridge, Oldbury, West Midlands B69 2AS. Contact Salon Secretary Ann Miles for opening times. Tel. 07710383586 or email: ann@pin-sharp.demon.co.uk
