Chris Hanley is a photographer who specialises in weddings and portraits. He likes to approach his work differently to other photographers and has recently started to do "cherish the dress shoots" a backlash to the harsh trash the dress shoots that are now popular. Here's his tip about inexpensive backgrounds:
"If you want an inexpensive white high key background to use on location buy an economy plain white shower curtain from on of the large DIY stores. Mine cost £7.99.
When I get to a clients house I peg the shower curtain to their own curtains so it is tight and wrinkle free. The window light illuminates thro the white shower curtain giving me a perfect high key background and no distracting objects.
I place my subject in front of the shower curtain and shoot with +2 or 3 stops exposure compensation."
