Joby announced two new Gorillamobile stands for the Apple iPad, the Ori and Yogi. On review here is the Ori, the design has been inspired by the Japanese art of the fold and can be adjusted into a wide variety of positions. So whether you are typing, watching a video or reading an ebook, the Ori can be set to an ergonomic position for maximum comfort. The Ori has been engineered from a special aluminium composite and is therefore extremely lightweight. The Joby Gorillamobile has an RRP of £64.99.

The instruction manual details a variety of positions that the Ori can be positioned:

• Page Turner - ideal for reading an ebook or magazine with the screen positioned at a 45 degree angle.
• Another Day at the Office - in this position the Ori is almost flat, at about a 15 degree angle, making it a more comfortable angle for typing.
• Sous Chef - if you need to read some instructions from the iPad, such as a recipe in the kitchen, this position would make it easy to read while performing another task.
• Popcorn and a Movie - this position holds the iPad at a 90 degree angle at the highest point the Ori can reach, making it easy to watch a movie.

The Ori feels extremely sturdy in any of the positions and the material is of excellent quality as well as being extremely lightweight. To attach an iPad to the Ori there is a case which covers the whole of the back of the iPad and secures it in place all the way around the edge, while accommodating the buttons, headphone jack and microphone.

The main hinge is quite hard to move into position but this means that the weight of the iPad is not going to be an issue. There are clips which hold the Ori in the varying positions which take no effort to set and take apart. Although the instruction manual has four positions detailed there are many possibilities due to the varying angles available. The iPad can also be rotated between landscape and portrait views.

When the iPad is not being used it can be left in the Ori which then folds up and acts as a case thus offering extra protection. The downside here is that there are a couple of parts on the Ori which stick out a bit so care needs to be taken to ensure they are not snagged, although they would take a large amount of force to actually break.

There are a large number of stands available for the iPad but there are not many which also double up as a protective case. At £69.99 many will see the Ori as quite an investment and there are certainly cheaper alternatives on the market. As promised by Joby, the Ori can fold into many positions to suit use of the iPad and is excellently construction from top quality materials. If you have the money to spare you certainly won't be disappointed by the Joby Goriallamobile for Apple iPad.
