Joby Gorillamobile Yogi for Apple iPad review - Daniel Bell reviews the Joby Gorillamobile Yogi for Apple iPad.

Specification
After the success of the Gorillapods for compact and DSLR cameras, Joby announced the Gorillamobile Yogi in January 2011 with two flexible legs rather than the three found on the Gorillapods. This means you can twist and bend the legs to position your iPad perfectly. The modular clip design allows you to easily switch from portrait to landscape orientation. The Joby Gorillamobile Yogi has an RRP of £44.99.
Joby Gorillamobile Yogi For iPad: Features
- Flexible legs bend and curl into an infinite number of poses
- Modular clip design to view the iPad in portrait or landscape orientation
- Legs can be stored separately to maximize case portability
- Durable and lightweight polycarbonate case
Joby Gorillamobile Yogi For iPad: Performance
In order to attach the legs to the iPad there is a polycarbonate case which covers the whole of the back of the iPad and has two clips: one for landscape and the other for portraits. The case has an edge all the way around which secures the iPad in place while accommodating the buttons, speaker and microphone.
In use, the options are virtually endless, you can position the iPad in just about any position, although it can prove tricky to set the iPad level and the legs will wrap around poles, branches etc. This is certainly the unique selling point of the Yogi although I was quite nervous when suspending the iPad above ground.
The case will give the iPad extra protection for the rear and edges although it does not offer any protection to the screen when not in use.
Joby Gorillamobile Yogi For iPad: Verdict
If you are a user who requires to position an iPad in an elevated position and/or connect it to poles or branches then the Yogi will fulfil your need. If you are looking for a table top stand then there are cheaper and simpler options on the market. At lot of the cost of the Yogi is likely to have been spent on the case and if Joby found a way that would require less material then the Yogi could be a lot cheaper. With an RRP of £44.99 I find it difficult to recommend the Joby Gorillamobile for Apple iPad.
