The Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Class 10 Multi-Kit is a 16Gb memory card with MicroSD to SD adapter, as well as a TINY USB reader that can attach to your keyring. Will the card give us the high speed performance expected? Find out in our review.

Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Multi-Kit Features

The Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Multi-Kit is a 16Gb MicroSDHC Class 10 card with an included SD Card adapter, as well as a tiny USB reader that the MicroSD card fits neatly in to. The USB adapter with this kit is smaller than the SD card adapter!

The Kingston MicroSDHC card comes with a lifetime warranty and the USB reader comes with a two year warranty. Recovery software isn't provided, but does come with Kingston's Ultimate Compact Flash cards.

Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Multi-Kit Handling / Performance

We tested the MicroSD card on it's own in a MicroSD reader, as well as in the MicroSD adapter and finally in the USB MicroSD Reader, here are the results after testing it with CrystalDisk:

  Read: Write:
MicroSD 19.57MB/s 10.40MB/s
MicroSD in MicroSD to SD Adapter 19.63MB/s 10.47MB/s
MicroSD in USB Reader 20.05MB/s 10.34MB/s

The results are quite good for read speeds, although when we looked at the Top 12 Quickest Memory Cards the majority of them were able to read at around 19.5MB/s and it's the write speeds that showed the biggest difference between the cards. The write speeds are also most important when shooting on a camera and can effect continuous shooting and shot to shot time. We tested this card with a Panasonic Lumix G1 with 3fps continuous shooting and using this card we were able to take 8 shots before slowdown, but with a faster card we were able to take over 50 shots with no signs of slowdown.

Value For Money
The 16Gb MicroSDHC card is £20 for the kit, vs £18 for equivalent 16gb Class 10 MicroSD with the SD adapter and no USB adapter, makes it pretty good value for money in my opinion, especially as the MicroSD card comes with a lifetime warranty.

Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Multi-Kit Verdict

It's great when a company or product gives you the equipment and tools to use something for multiple purposes, or helps you get quicker access to your photos or videos where-ever you are. That's why we loved the now discontinued Sandisk SD USB Plus cards with built in USB plug. These new MicroSD cards with ultra small USB readers offer almost the next best thing. However this MicroSD card has write speeds that are quite slow for a Class 10 card, slowing down continuous shooting.

Kingston 16Gb MicroSDHC Multi-Kit Cons
