Featuring high-resolution CCDs and compact body styling, these cameras are
characterised by advanced optical and digital technologies together with
numerous functions. The Konica digital Revio KD-300Z, a 3.34 megapixel model
will be available in early July and the Revio KD-200Z, a 2.1 mega pixel model,
follows in early August.
Konica say the Revio KD-300Z is a high-quality and ultra compact camera with a stainless steel alloy exterior and a host of features, ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand. It's equipped with a 7.8-15.6mm (equivalent to 38-76mm in a 35mm camera) 2x zoom lens along with a 2x digital zoom to reach up to 4x zoom power for close-ups of everything from flowers to jewellery and even documents as close as 6cm from the subject.
Other features include a long exposure mode for twilight and night shots, aperture-priority, a choice of four flash modes including red-eye reduction, auto flash, exposure compensation mode and landscape mode for sharp landscape photography. In addition, the camera includes a movie mode, allowing filming of up to 15 seconds during which the optical zoom function can be used to add interest.
The camera's primary colour CCD allows an almost infinity of colours to be captured in high detail, but users can also opt to take sepia and monochrome images by switching the colour mode.
The second model, the Konica digital Revio KD-200Z has a 2.11 megapixel CCD (2.02 million effective pixels) and a 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35-105mm in a 35mm camera) which, combined with its 2x digital zoom function, can provide a maximum of 6x zoom power.
Fully auto functions, such as focus, exposure, white balance and flash mean that even novice users can take high quality photographs which, even if greatly enlarged, can offer a similar high resolution to that of normal photographic prints.
The camera is fitted with Konica's AE system, which processes all the information on the screen to set the ideal exposure. Konica have also added an extra function that compensates for low latitude to produce the clearest pictures. As a result, Konica claim that all types of shots, including summer beach scenes, backlit scenes and other high-contrast scenes, can be realistically captured with ease.
A full array of modes such as macro (down to 25cm from the subject), black & white mode, portrait mode, exposure compensation, distant mode and selectable flash including red-eye reduction, provides welcome freedom, while the movie mode adds to its versatility.
The power-saving design means that with a single lithium battery the camera can record around 500 frames when the LCD is on and around 1,250 frames when it is turned off. The camera can also use two readily available alkali-manganese penlight batteries as well as a lithium battery or two nickel-hydrogen penlight batteries.
Both cameras can use SD memory card, which is gaining widespread acceptance as the next generation recording medium. They also feature a 1.5 inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT colour LCD monitor for instant image viewing and the screen displays a variety of useful and easy-to-understand information about shooting mode, image quality mode and other factors.
'Having recently re-entered the digital camera market with three VGA models, we are now delighted to be back in the 2-3+ million mega pixel sector with the launch of the Digital Revio series.
