LaCie introduce USB and Firewire connectivity to their new 16x10x40x CD-RW -
The drive incorporates LaCie's proprietary interface, U&I, that offers hot-plug connection to any USB or FireWire equipped Mac or PC.
The
LaCie U&I CD-RW-16x10x40x boasts the fastest writing speed of the industry
and lets users burn an entire 650Mb CD-R in less than five minutes. The
10x-rewriting speed and the 40x-playback speed also represent the industry's
highest specifications. These figures are reduced to 4x4x6x when the USB
connection is used.
"The sheer speed, coupled with
excellent reliability, offers immediate benefits for frequent professional use."
commented George Leptos, UK Branch Manager, LaCie. "16x record speeds really
help churn out discs faster. The user's computer is available for other tasks in
a few minutes, providing considerable productivity gains."
The drive also incorporates the
Pure Phase Laser System that is claimed to guarantee high quality recording by
stabilising the laser power and eliminating unwanted
reflections.
It can be used with most types of
media, including the latest 16x 700Mb CD-R discs that provide six extra minutes
of audio storage or 50Mb of data storage, compared to standard 650MB/74-minute
CD-Recordable discs. CD-Rs produced by the drive can be read on ordinary CD-ROM
drives, CD-Audio player, CDR drives, DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM drives.
The U&I CD-RW-16x10x40x is
available for 316 and comes with cables, one recordable (16x/80mn), one
rewritable (10x/74mn) disc and the LaCie Recording Utilities (EasyCDcreator and
DirectCD for Windows 98SE/2000/ME, Toast for MacOS). All LaCie drives are fitted
with an international power supply.
