Lastminute.com is on the hunt for a 'Spontaneity Champion' to live the brand, while having the best year of their life.
The 'Spontaneity Champion' will have the enviable task of spontaneously immersing themselves in up to £50,000 worth of free lastminute.com travel and experiences; to inspire others to cancel their plans, ditch the guidebook and see where their free time could truly take them.
Selected by public voting on www.lovelivinglastminute.com
and a panel of judges (including travel documentary maker Simon Reeve) the chosen 'champion' could be anyone - from a graphic designer who is a travel aficionado, a hairdresser who is an instagram-addict, or a marketeer who has a contagious passion for living in the moment.
The chosen 'Spontaneity Champion' won’t have to give up their day job. With up to £50,000 worth of lastminute.com travel and treats to road-test, the opportunity is essentially a chance to completely up-grade your 2014 - to do and experience something amazing every weekend. A number of the fully paid, spontaneous 'missions' will be picked by lastminute.com’s social audience and could include travelling long-haul for a weekend or playing hotel roulette in central London. Once they are back from another ‘weekend of a lifetime,’ the ‘Spontaneity Champion’ will have the opportunity to curate and share their adventures with the public, becoming the online face of Europe’s favourite travel and leisure brand.
The 'Spontaneity Champion' initiative has been inspired by the habits of lastminute.com’s customers who have been increasingly showing an appetite for a more spontaneous approach to travel and leisure.
Matthew Crummack, CEO of lastminute.com commented; "Customers today have a wealth of information and resource at their fingertips which can be both a blessing and a curse in the way we enjoy travel. It has never been easier to access amazing destinations at the very last minute, but it has also never been more tempting to plan our trips in the most minute details, with a thousand voices sharing their opinions and photos online. The Spontaneity Champion will inspire and remind us that often the best travel experiences are the least planned. Those trips we have when we relinquish control as the architect of our perfect trip and take on an attitude of discovery and embrace the unknown."
Simon Reeve, BBC Travel Presenter added; "I can’t wait to see what the successful ‘champion’ will do and how they will embrace their year. The world is at their fingertips, and the opportunity to drop everything for new experiences is a dream for anyone. I am lucky enough to have travelled in a pretty spontaneous way, but not everyone needs to be a travel presenter to do this. There are creative approaches you can take which mean you really can make the most of discovering the world – whether at home or abroad."
lastminute.com is asking anyone keen to apply to demonstrate their spontaneity in the most creative way possible. Stage one of the application process is to create a 60 second YouTube video about why you are the ideal person.
Applications open on 5 November 2013, and will remain open until 1 December 2013. Ten finalists will then be shortlisted by lastminute.com, and given a spontaneous challenge to undertake within 48 hours. The winner will be announced on 31 January 2014.
Would be ‘Spontaneity Champions’ can apply at www.lovelivinglastminute.com
, where they must post a short video on why they are the best person for the role.
