Lastolite Professional Brolly kit Overview
Located inside a smart, thin canvas bag no taller than four feet, the kit is not packed in tightly and can come out and be packed away again with ease.
The stand can reach a maximum of approx. 12 feet, but at this height becomes very unstable. The brolly comes in its own small case to keep it neatly wrapped up and the bracket has its own dedicated pocket on the inside of the main bag. This closes using velcro to stick to the soft inner lining.
The brolly comes with the white reflector on the inside and the silver outside, so to use the silver side, some adjustment needs to be made. This isn't difficult as the reflectors are attached using small plastic cups which slot over the arms of the brolly.
It doesn't take much more than a minute or two to set up the whole kit. A cold shoe is provided to attach a flash gun.
The stand has 4 sections and can reach around 12ft.
The clamp fits onto the brass spigot.
Fully set up, the flash will fit onto the cold shoe and fire into the brolly.
Lastolite Professional Brolly kit Build quality
The quality of the bracket and brolly is the usual expected from a respected company such as Lastolite. The stand doesn't feel as good quality. The coating used makes the main bar feel like plastic, which it isn't. The spigot is made of brass for extra strength.
The lastolite website mentions a padded shoulder strap, which my sample didn't have. I also noticed when packing it up for collection that the strap had torn half way across. Unfortunately, I can't confirm if this was done in my possession as I didn't notice it until the last day.
I think it does go to show that the strength of the strap should be brought into question. Even if it was done before it came into my possession, it doesn't bode well.
Lastolite Professional Brolly kit Verdict
Apart from the strap issue, the kit is a nice piece of... erm, kit. Fitting into a small bag like it does, means less to carry around. It's also pretty light which is great news.
I'd have to trial it further to see if the strap became more of an issue, but it shouldn't have started to tear in the first place.
