While the world of professional photography goes digital, one prolab managing director has been scouring the world for the perfect black & white processor.

And Richard Leach is keeping mum about the machine as he believes his company, Leach Colour Ltd of Brighouse, Yorkshire, is not only able to offer scintillating prints at very reasonable cost but has also stolen a march on the rest of the country's prolabs.

"It's the only one of its type in the country,' he says. 'For the first time we are able to offer photographers who work in black & white contrast-corrected prints on true photographic paper at competitive prices.'

As it took him six months to find the right machine, he's tight-lipped about the maker, but he does reveal that it will take 120 and 35mm film and produce prints up to 18x12 inches. A 36 exposure 35mm film processed and printed to 6x4 inches is 11.90; a 12 exposure 120 film processed and printed to 5x5 inches is 9.65.
