Leica Looking Into M9 Issue - Leica is investigating why M9 cameras are crashing when Sandisk SD cards are used in them.

Leica M9

After receiving several emails from annoyed photographers concerning the failures of Sandisk memory cards in the M9, Leica have released a statement from their head office in Germany.

Product management said: “We have received a number of enquiries about SD Card compatibility in the last weeks, in particular in relation to new Sandisk cards. The issue is currently being analysed at Leica and Sandisk. As soon as we have established the root cause and a solution, we will communicate it via our web site.”

Gil Lavi, professional photographer and acclaimed worldwide freelancer, contacted ePHOTOzine with his own problems concerning the M9. In his online blog, he tells of how the M9, or the memory card, failed him at a crucial moment. “It was just before the end of the photo shoot that the other new SanDisk SD card Extreme crashed inside the M9, making the camera dead and the card unreadable in any device. With all the embarrassment, I had to reshoot everything all over again with my backup equipment.”

It seems that this issue is a mystery even to its manufacturers, which means it could take a while to solve. Keep checking the site for any further information.

Hey Leica! These are called complaints not enquiries! How about apologising to those people who have experienced problems and stop sounding so pompous and arrogant.

No better than anything else on the market, Or at least as good as the " Kodak " components they use within the elegantly engineered & overpriced cases.....Absolutely.....Wink

Now now thats a tad unfair, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Samsung and many others make perfectly reliable cameras......Wink

Leica might issue an apology when they find a solution to the problem. I remember even Intel had issued a press release that there was a problem with their SSD line-up and even they did not issue an apology.

Leica should pay for the shoot again, when you by a brand new camera you expect it to have been tested a long time before release especialy as Sandisk are one of the leading card manufacturers out there, shame on you Leica.
