At a prestigious Leica event at Photokina, Cologne, where the presenter likened themselves to Apple and the crowd cheered with every new product announcement, Leica announced a new range of digital cameras, including the first Leica Digital Rangefinder to provide live view, live focus, and full HD video recording, with the new 24 megapixel Leica M. Leica announced a new "entry level" Leica Digital Rangefinder called the Leica M-E, with a stripped down body and features, it will be available for £3900 including VAT.
In a move that is very similar to Apple's recent products, Leica has decided that their cameras will no longer feature model numbers, so the new Leica M9 replacement is simply known as the Leica M, and the new Leica S2 replacement, is now simply known as the Leica S. Retaining its classic design (shown above left), but featuring advanced technology including Live View and Full HD video capability, plus compatibility with Leica R lenses, this is the most versatile model ever in the history of the Leica rangefinder camera. Available in silver chrome or black paint finish, from early 2013 at £5,100 inc VAT.
Completing the Leica M family, the M-E offers exceptional image quality combined with the distinct advantages of rangefinder photography, and a minimal, discreet design in anthracite grey (shown above, right). Available from September 2012 at £3,900 inc VAT.
