Leica Camera AG, Solms has enhanced its sport optics product portfolio by adding the high-performance spotting scopes LEICA TELEVID 62 and LEICA APO-TELEVID 62. These are compact outdoor products which travel well and are especially pleasant to handle. Presented at America's largest hunting fair, the SHOT show in Las Vegas, the scopes will be on sale from October 2002 onwards. Compared with the LEICA TELEVID 77 the diameter of the front lens has been reduced from 77 to 62 millimeters. This means a 30% decrease in the weight to about 1000 grams and the length to about 300 mm. At the same time, the new products offer superb image brightness for the class of scopes up to 65 mm front lens diameter. Primarily designed for daytime use, the new compact scopes also feature extremely high color fidelity and excellent contrast. As regards image definition, the 62 mm scopes achieve similarly high results as the 77 mm models.
'Nature lovers, hunters, sportsmen and hikers will appreciate the compact lightweight with high-performance optics, as it is ideal for experiencing nature in its purest form, comments Stephan Albrecht, Produkt Manager of Sports Optics.
All the eyepieces of the LEICA TELEVID 77 can also be used on the LEICA TELEVID 62. Due to the shorter focal length of the lens there is a 20% reduction in the magnification. The resulting fixed magnifications of 16x, 26x and 32x and the universal 16 48x zoom eyepiece provide a wide choice which is excellently suited to the 62 mm lens diameter. A wide-angle version of the eyepiece with 32x magnification that offers a particularly large field of view of 40 m has been specially designed for the new 62 mm scopes.
The pronounced close-focus range of 3.5 m also makes the new scopes useful for close-up observation, for example of butterflies.
The LEICA TELEVID 62 and the LEICA APO-TELEVID 62 are each available with either straight or angled eyepieces. The angled models have a tripod base that can be rotated in 90 degree steps. This enables an angled view either from the top or from the side. The straight version has a fixed base, making it even more compact.
The imaging performance, already impressive for a compact scope, is significantly increased even further by the Apo version with fluoride optics for effective elimination of color fringes.
The nitrogen-filled body is press waterproof to a depth of 3 meters and has a particularly ergonomical design. Partial rubber armoring protects the scope against scratches and other damage. Leica's patented dual focusing system offers a fast and a fine drive for the internal focusing. The full function is guaranteed between 25 and + 55 C.
The LEICA TELEVID 62 and the LEICA APO-TELEVID 62 will be on sale at Leica stockists' from October 2002.
