Logitech announces first point-and-shoot digital video productsTwo new products from Logitech, launched today, aim to solve the familiar problem of not having a camcorder to hand in the precious moments that should be recorded for posterity or shared with absent friends. The devices, known as Logitech Pocket Video 750 and Logitech Pocket Video? 550, are two major new entrants in the rapidly emerging group of cameras that offer video recording in an ultra compact design. The two new Pocket Video products are as portable as point-and-shoot still cameras. This allows users to record video in any setting where before they would have had to either settle for still and silent images, or carry a bulky and expensive camcorder.

Pocket Video 750 (£199.99) features a 1.5 inch swivel LCD with LED backlight for easy viewing. A 2x digital zoom allows users to be closer to the action, while a 32MB Secure Digital Card (SD card) allows users to start recording video instantly. Pocket Video 550 (£149.99) is even smaller and more portable than Pocket Video 750.

Designed to be simple not only when recording video, but also when sharing or editing that video, the products come with a suite of new software that makes it easy to organise and archive video on the PC, create video discs for playback, or send video e-mail attachments. The video cameras also connect directly to the TV, with an enclosed AV cable, so video clips can be played back straight away on the TV, making it easy to share memories without having to crowd around a small computer screen.

Videos are recorded in MPEG4 format, a superior compression technology compared to other formats used in similar kinds of devices, giving good quality playback without taking up too much storage capacity. Up to one hour of video can be fitted onto a 128MB SD card. Users can switch cards or delete files on the go, so there are no more missed opportunities from rewinding or fumbling with tapes.

"Camcorder users told us that they want a more affordable and portable video camera, allowing them to capture moments that they currently miss, and to then easily access and share the video they have recorded," said Logitiech spokesperson. "The Pocket Video products satisfy this need, and do this with a design that's instantly appealing."

Both products include: an SD card slot to expand recording time with additional memory cards; PC software to easily view, archive or email
clips; batteries for up to 2 hours of continuous use; plus Roxio VideoWave Movie Creator LE software for video editing and creating video CDs to playback on compatible DVD players. The Pocket Video products are compatible with Microsoft ® Windows® 98 SE, 2000, ME, or XP.
