From bottles to backpack - Market leader Lowepro has confirmed that its new commemorative backpack Primus AW - the world’s first recycled camera bag - is to launch in August 2007 with a guide retail price of £179.
The Primus AW is made from 51% recycled material. More than 22 recycled soft drink bottles are used to make the patented Cyclepet fabric needed for each bag, reducing the amount of materials in our landfill sites. Cyclepet combines both water and abrasion resistance, together with an ecologically minded design.
The Primus AW has been created to celebrate Lowepro’s 40th Anniversary, and as part of Lowepro’s continued commitment to conservation and environmental protection around the world, for each bag sold, a financial contribution will go to Polar Bears International (PBI) - a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the worldwide conservation of the polar bear.
The unique design of the Primus AW combines maximum comfort, protection and accessibility with minimal bulk - making it perfect for adventure-bound outdoor photographers. The main camera compartment is padded and holds a digital SLR pro body with zoom lens attached, in addition to one or two extra lens or flash unit.
The Primus AW also offers photographers quick and easy access to their equipment - without removing the bag - through expandable side zipped camera pockets. Meanwhile, the bag’s exclusive lumbar equipment access points allow instant access to camera gear, while keeping the bag and equipment off the ground- thus ensuring the harness is kept clean.
The Primus AW comes with an additional top daypack compartment that is large enough to carry a range of outdoor accessories and boasts Lowepro’s unique All-Weather CoverTM, a built-in memory card pouch and outside hatch pocket for quickly retrieving outdoor accessories. The bag’s exterior features the new Glide-Lock system with attachment points that are available for tripods, outdoor accessories or to add any Slip-Lock compatible products.
Meanwhile, the pack’s lightweight, adjustable harness system with high-density padding delivers maximum comfort with minimal bulk for the wearer as it moulds to a variety of body types and distributes weight evenly under heavy load.
Nigel Fielden, Managing Director of DayMen International says: “Throughout the last 40 years, Lowepro has built a reputation for unrivalled design and innovation and has delivered a host of industry firsts.”
“We are proud that the Primus AW continues this tradition as the industry’s first photo backpack made primarily from recycled material. Each bag sold will also make a valuable financial contribution towards preserving the fragile natural habitat for future generations of polar bears.”
Available in black and arctic blue, the Primus AW commemorative anniversary backpack will be on sale in August 2007 with a guide retail price of £179.
