Minolta DiMAGE Xi - The World's smallest and lightest - Minolta's exclusive folded optical zoom system is the reason for the DiMAGE Xi's incredibly compact design. Making it the World's smallest and lightest digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens.
Minolta's exclusive folded optical zoom system is the reason for the DiMAGE Xi's incredibly compact design. This revolutionary non-extending lens is responsible for maintaining the camera's 20mm thin profile either while recording or when stored in a pocket and with the lightest body in its class, just 130 g, the DiMAGE Xi can be carried everywhere.
The 3x optical zoom, equivalent to a 37 - 111mm lens on a 35mm camera, is assisted by 4x digital zoom giving a seamless zoom range of 12X.
A quiet, easy to use camera with the world's fastest start-up time
The camera is ready to use approximately 1.2 seconds after pressing the main switch. This is the fastest start-up time of any digital camera with an optical zoom.* The high speed computer system creates the perception of near instantaneous response when using the camera.
The miniature motor used to drive the optical zoom is whisper quiet. The camera's controls are laid out for intuitive operation.
High image quality resulting from a 3.3 megapixel CCD, a 3x optical zoom, and CxProcess.
The DiMAGE Xi is built around a high precision electro-optical system designed to maximise image quality. The system starts with a 3.3 megapixel 1/2.7-type interline primary colour CCD with 3.2 million effective pixels for fine high resolution images. The pixel resolution of the CCD will produce 10 x 14 inch (B4-size) 150dpi prints.
The new DiMAGE Xi shares the same revolutionary folded 3x optical zoom as the DiMAGE X giving the equivalent performance as a 37 -111 mm lens on a 35mm camera. This lens employs five aspheric elements including two double sided lenses to ensure sharp, contrasty images at all focal lengths. In spite of its compact dimensions, the optical zoom has a fast, maximum aperture of f2.8 - f/3.6, which allows images to be captured in low light with little noise.
Minolta's image processing technology, CxProcess, guarantees the image from the CCD will faithfully reproduce the scene. CxProcess controls image sharpness, colour and contrast while minimising noise to produce vivid, natural pictures; the warmth of the human complexion or the rich subtleties of green foliage will be rendered as clearly as they were perceived.
Slim, stylish dual metallic case
The DiMAGE Xi is housed in a dual metallic case. The aluminium alloy body gives a fine lustre to the camera while the brushed stainless steel faceplate lends an elegant accent.
Because of the vertically aligned optical elements, the lens never extends beyond the slim profile of the body. The DiMAGE Xi is unobtrusive whether it is slipped into a shirt pocket or used to capture a special moment with friends or family.
Features for all occasions
Two autofocus modes give control over shooting. Wide AF employs a large autofocus area for quick, easy photography; simply place the subject anywhere within the AF frames and the camera will do the rest. Spot AF uses a small area in the centre of the image to focus. This is useful for singling out a specific subject from a group.
The DiMAGE Xi is not limited to capturing high quality still images. Movie clips up to 35 seconds in length with audio can be recorded. A 15 second voice memo audio track can be attached to an image when taken, or an audio caption can be added to a saved image later. Up to 30 minutes of audio without image data can be recorded.
The DiMAGE Xi is the perfect vehicle for the information super highway. Plug in the USB cable and simply drag and drop image onto a computer. The e-mail copy functions makes a 640 X 480 (VGA) copy of an image on the memory card so that it can be easily transferred over the Internet.
The DiMAGE Xi uses SD Memory Cards or MultiMediaCards as the recording media. These tiny cards are inexpensive and widely available.
The auto reset functions gives photographers the choice of having mode settings made when using the camera reset or remain active when the camera is switched off. For casual users, this prevents a special setting made previously from being accidentally employed the next time the camera is used. For advanced image makers, the specific camera functions can be set and remain set for each use.
When shooting large numbers of images, camera functions make sorting and record keeping simple. Images can be placed in standard or date folders; the date option automatically places recorded images in folders indicated by the date of capture. When active, date imprinting marks each image with the date it was taken.
Bundled with the new DiMAGE Viewer
The DiMAGE Viewer was developed to support the latest generation of Minolta digital cameras. The Viewer complements a camera by allowing still and movie images to be processed and edited on a computer.
Editing single and multiple images is as simple as using a mouse. Images or folders can be copied or moved to any location in the computer. Multiple files can be renamed with a serial number. Exif information recorded when an image was captured, date, shutter speed, focal length, etc, can be displayed and the information to be displayed can be edited. The Viewer is not limited to images captured with Minolta digital cameras, but can edit and process numerable common image file formats.
A wide range of image processing controls gives everyone, regardless of ability or experience, the tools to enhance or manipulate images. Colour, brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness can be adjusted using palettes with sliders and input boxes. For advanced image processing, images can be adjusted using tone curves and histograms.
The Movie Enhancer is a new application plug-in for editing and processing digital video. Movie clips can be spliced together and unwanted scenes can be cut. The Movie Enhancer can reduce or eliminate the affects of generalised or localised flicker as well as improving image quality. Basic and advanced image correction palettes allow adjustments to colour, contrast, saturation, sharpness and brightness.
The DiMAGE Xi is a sophisticated and elegant imaging tool. And it's so small that it can go anywhere your inspiration takes you.
