If you have a Nikon 1 J1, J2 or V1 digital camera you may have discovered the built-in feature called Motion Snapshots. This mode combines a still image with a short video and here's how you use it:
1. Find the mode dial and rotate it to activate the Motion Snapshot Mode.
2. Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus (you can do this when shooting still shots too).
3. Once focused, press the shutter-release button all the way down to capture your still images. At the same time, the camera will record around a second of movie footage.
4. To preview the Motion Snapshot click the playback button. When you do so the movie will be played back in slow motion and the photograph will displayed once the clip has ended.
Press OK to view the Motion Snapshot then to end the playback and return to shooting mode press the shutter-release button.
You can add music to your Motion Snapshot by pressing the F (feature) button while in Motion Snapshot mode. This displays the 'Theme' menu where various options are available. The music selected will then play whenever the image is viewed.
Try this feature next time you're shooting action shots such as someone riding a bike, jumping, running or even cartwheeling! It'll also work well when capturing a shot of someone blowing birthday candles out.
